Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
By harnessing the resilience and power within you to change the thoughts that cause you pain or keep you stuck, you can change much of your present day world and future.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is grounded in the belief that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all interconnected. One of the first steps is to collaboratively work to identify negative, irrational, or unhelpful thought patterns (some examples we hear from many of our clients include automatic thoughts such as “I’m not loveable/No one will ever want to be with me” or “I’ll never be good enough”) as well as counterproductive behaviors that contribute to emotional distress and feeling stuck. During sessions we will look to more deeply understand how these thought patterns developed over time, starting from very early on in childhood; they are shaped and honed by the many messages we internalize about ourselves, others, and the world, our life experiences, and also how we later interpret and act on all these many messages and experiences.
Thought patterns and consequent behaviors do not have to remain etched in stone, which is critical to know. They can be examined, challenged, and reinterpreted (cognitive restructuring) in a way that enhances self-awareness, self-compassion, motivation, mental health, and overall wellbeing. Our therapists will tailor treatment to best meet you, your needs, and your reasons for seeking support. There is so much insight that stands to be gained into who you are, how you have gotten to where you are today, what you are struggling with and why these struggles have come to be, and your core beliefs, values, and ways of engaging with the world. Ultimately, our focus is on your goals, and helping to empower you to make not only the here-and-now feel more positive and fulfilling, but the future as well.
